Transformers - the Movie is based on the Japanese invention, the toys and the comic books: the robots which are able to convert themselves because of cogs and circuits, into different characters and robots.

The film's animation is in line with the comics and, with the transformations, the plot is sometimes difficult to follow. However, there is an excellent array of voices: Eric Idle as Wreck- Gar, Judd Nelson as the hero Hot Rod, Leonard Nimoy as the villain Galvatron, Robert Stack as Ultra Magnis, Lionel Stander as Kup and Orson Welles in his final role as Unicron.
