THE FURTHER ADVENTURES OF TENNESSEE BUCK
US, 1988, 88 minutes, Colour.
David Keith, Kathy Shower, Camilla Griggs, Sydney Lassick.
Directed by David Keith.
The Further Adventures of Tennessee Buck must lay claim to being one of the worst films made for popular consumption. It is an obvious takeoff of Indiana Jones. It starts lazily with the river, does not have an ingratiating hero, exploits sex and violence, has the hero shooting elephants, and doing double-deals with friends and enemies.
It is all the more surprising since the film stars and was directed by David Keith (Officer and a Gentleman, The Rose). He gives a self-indulgent macho performance. There is a blonde glamorous heroine and a blond glamorous hero - who gets beheaded.
The parody of The Adventures of Indiana Jones is particularly obvious - with no harm to Indiana Jones.
The film was shot in attractive Sri Lankan locations - standing in for Borneo.
The film shows Hollywood's living on its own legends and parodies and spoofs not being able to stand up to the originals if there is little intelligence behind them. A very poor film.
