FRIDAY THE 13th PART 2
US, 1981, 87 minutes, Colour.
Directed by Steve Miner.
Friday the 13th Part 2 simply capitalises on the extraordinary box office success of the original in 1980. It takes up where the original left off and includes large flashbacks in the prologue. From then on it virtually repeats the plot of the original - except that it moves the camp further along the lake. A group of contemporary bright young types are consistently murdered off by the now monstrously grown Jason. There is plenty of suspense although the violence is not as grisly and explicit as in the original. However, the various styles of killings resemble those of the original as do various menacing sequences and the final confrontation with the heroine. A way is left open for a third part - if necessary for the box office. The production company and director are different from the original but it all fits into the vein of the gory mass murder thrillers so popular at the end of the 70s.
