Friday 13th IV: the Final Chapter

FRIDAY 13th PART IV – THE FINAL CHAPTER

US, 1984, 91 minutes, Colour.
Directed by Joseph Zito.

Friday the 13th Part IV - The Final Chapter is, according to advertising, the final film in a rather gruesome but popular series.

In 1980, the original made quite some impact with audiences and at the box office, it set a pattern for many (too many) derivatives and gory imitations in the early 80s. It set up the basic scene at a holiday camp with several good-looking young men and women who were dispatched in a gruesome and gory way. There was a sequel which was popular, an attempt to capitalise on the popularity of 3-Dimension films in the early 80s. However, this final chapter, while it resembles the other films, seems merely to be a catalogue of gory killings. The audience tends to lose interest in the flimsy plot and just wait for who will be murdered next. This file keeps in line with the previous films by a collage summary of the previous films. It also takes the child from the previous film and turns him into a potential villain - for further sequels?
