Made in Paris

MADE IN PARIS

US, 1966, 101 minutes, Colour.
Ann- Margret, Louis Jourdan, Richard Crenna, Edie Adams, Chad Everett.
Directed by Boris Sagal.

Made In Paris is a souffle - as one reviewer referred to it, Alice in Fashionland. It is a star vehicle for Ann -Margret as she was emerging in the mid-'60s. She has a good supporting cast led by Louis Jourdan. The setting is that of the world of fashion both in New York and in Paris with plenty of local colour, fashion shows, romance - and a chance even for Ann Margret to do her vigorous style of dancing. Wide screen, colour - and lightly inconsequential.

1.Entertainment of the '60s? Gloss and colour? Fashion? Light?

2.Wide screen, colour photography? New York and Paris? The world of affluence and fashion? Musical score, songs and dances?

3.The title and its reference to fashion and its reputation? Romances made in Paris?

4.Maggie, Ann-Margret's presence and style? Her work? Relationship with Ted and his father? With Irene? The chance to go to Paris? Her mistakes, clashes with Marc? Her meeting with Richard Crenna and the relationship with him? The ups and downs, mix-ups, fashion shows? Romantic entanglements? Ambiguities with Marc? Ted and his arrival - and everything sorted out?

5.Irene, her style, her relationship with Marc, her getting married, arrival in Paris?

6.Louis Jourdan and his French style, relationship with Irene, presumptions, his attraction towards Maggie, the entanglements, the fights? The resolution? Richard Crenna and the American style - working with Maggie, attracted to her, entanglements? Chad Everett and his American style - and true love? And the comic touch with John McGiver? as his seemingly bumbling father?

7.Fashion shows, glamour, comedy, music - French servants and intrigue? The fluffy ingredients of the Alice in Fashionland world.
