Gods Must Be Crazy 2, The

THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY 2

South Africa, 1989, 90 minutes, Colour.
Nixau, Lena Ferrugia, Hans Strydom.
Directed by Jamie Uys.

The Gods Must Be Crazy 2 capitalises on the extraordinary popularity of the original film right throughout the world. Audiences enjoyed the story of the bushman and his confrontation with alleged civilisation. Director Jamie Uys brings the same perspective to this sequel - and just as the original had a great deal of slapstick comedy, so also the sequel. The dubbing in each film was not the most persuasive.

The film uses the backgrounds of South Africa and the Kalahari Desert, raises social issues about terrorists, but also shows the way of life of the bushmen - especially, according to the press notes, the actor portraying Xixo was told what to say and asked to translate it into the language of the bushmen - and it apparently contained jokes not scripted by the director, which causes great merriment to the screenings for the bush people!

6. Ann Taylor and her conference, the desert, the issues, the travel to visit Dr Marshall? The meeting, the discussions? The flight, the crash in the storm? Survival instruction, their separating?

7. Ann and the encounter with Xixo, the discovery of the water, the conflict with the mercenaries, the black American, the Cuban, the attempt to take her hostage - but her drawing on her New York experience, taking them over, getting their jeep, going to Marshall?
