GOLD OF THE AMAZON WOMEN
US, 1979, 94 minutes, Colour.
Bo Svenson, Anita Ekberg, Donald Pleasence.
Directed by Mark L.Lester.
Gold of the Amazon Women is comic-book stuff, a brief telemovie of action adventure which is farfetched but done with tongue in cheek by director Mark L. Lester (Class of 99, Fire Starter, Truck Stop Women, Stunts, Bobby Joe and the Outlaw). Bo Svenson is a stolid tough hero, Richard Romanus has some energy as his companion in adventure. Donald Pleasence leers as the villain. Anita Ekberg makes something of a comeback as the statuesque Amazon queen - in the middle of the modern Brazilian jungle.
It is a story of adventurers in Brazil, a greedy villain pursuing the heroes who are trying to find the gold of the Amazons. Anita Ekberg leads her warrior kingdom - and there are battles and confrontations and the group having to face the realities of the modern world. Comic-book stuff.
