Barricade is a tough Warner Bros western of the early '50s. It has the atmosphere of the remote mining centres of the west, ruled over by ruthless opportunists, a haven for those fleeing the law. Dane Clark is the hero, clashing with boss, Raymond Massey. Ruth Roman portrays a woman on the run from the law, caught up in this community. Robert Douglas has a good role as an undercover finance inspector.
The film is an adaptation of the Sea Wolf (filmed with Edward G. Robinson and John Garfield) - with an enclosed mining town as the equivalent of the ship. Direction is by Peter Godfrey, a regular director of standard Warner Bros films. Brief, tough, themes of law and order.
