Second in a trilogy by Sergio Giral concerning the history of slavery in Cuba. The style is that of a Western, but the interest is in the socio-economic aspects of slavery, presenting much savagery, especially through Estevez, a catcher of runaway slaves and, finally, his pursuit of Melchora, a woman who was a symbol of freedom.
