The Protector is a fast-paced martial arts police thriller with Hong Kong star Jackie Chan ( The Big Brawl). His co-star is Danny Aiello (The Purple Rose of Cairo, Moonstruck). The film offers familiar material, buddy policemen, surveillance of suspected drug racketeers, kidnappings, violent confrontations in American and Hong Kong locations.

The film was directed by James Glickenhaus, who also wrote the screenplay. He directed The Exterminator and The Soldier.

Good of its kind.

1. Familiar material? Police thrillers of the '80s? The conventional tough portrait of the police - and the context of Asia and martial arts?

2. New York backgrounds, Hong Kong? Exotic, the locations, the effect of these exotic worlds of East and West? The stunt work and special effects? The songs?

3. Familiar, action, drugs, police corruption, tough justice?

4. Billy Wong and his abilities, the death of his partner, working with Danny Garoni? The chief and the corruption? Laura and) the fashion show? Hong Kong, the authorities, life style, Ko and the money, Lee Hing and Su Ling? Chases, fights? Plans? Shapiro and his henchmen, Benny Garucci? The warehouse, the confrontation? The police arriving, the corrupt police? The crane and the victory? Celebration back in New York?

5. Garoni as a partner to Billy Wong, his Vietnam background, memories of R & R in Hong Kong? his participation in the action?

6. Ko, protector, rich, violent, the gang? Shapiro and his henchmen? The corrupt police?

7. Lee Hing and company, violence, deaths?

8. Laura, the world of glamour, the kidnap, in Hong Kong, imprisonment, freedom?

9. Enjoyable - but yet another violent police show?
