He's My Girl

HE'S MY GIRL

US, 1987, 104 minutes, Colour.
T.K. Carter, David Hallyday, Jennifer Tilly, David Clennon, Bibi Besch.
Directed by Gabrielle Beaumont.

He's My Girl is an enjoyable comedy in the Tootsie vein (though nowhere in the same league). It capitalises on mistaken identity and a man having to impersonate a woman.

Pop Singer David Hallyday (son of singer Johnny Hallyday) wins a competition and goes to Los Angeles but has to take a girl. His black best friend, an exuberant T.K. Carter, plays Reggie disguised as Regina. All the expected things happen. There is humorous farce, some witty lines - but it is all fairly predictable. The film doesn't seem to have an ending and information is given about the future of the characters (which doesn't quite fit with what went before). There are songs, comic detail, satire on the record and video world. Direction is by the English Gabrielle Beaumont,(The Godsend, Gone Are The Dayes).
