JASON X
US, 2001, 91 minutes, Colour.
Kane Hodder, Lexa Doig, Lisa Ryder, David Cronenberg.
Directed by Jim Isaacs.
Jason X is the tenth episode in the Friday the 13th series, which stretched over a period of twenty years.
In order to have different perspective on the old story, Jason is now cryogenically preserved. The year is 2455 and a lab assistant, Rowan, played by Lexa Doig, thaws at the same time as Jason. They are on a spaceship and she has various students, a female android and some marines.
What happens on the space station, of course, is exactly what happened before in the United States forests. The various members of the team disappear, one by one. However, the main warrior against Jason is the android KAY-EM14, played by Lisa Ryder. The film pays homage to a number of horror films of the last twenty years and re-creates the original Camp Crystal Lake of 1981 in a virtual hologram.
There is an appearance by celebrated director, David Cronenberg.
The film shows that the franchise is coming to the end of its life, repeating the basic plot even though the humorous tone and the setting in the future give it something of a different twist.
