Sorority Boys

SORORITY BOYS

Directed by Wallace Wolodarsky.

This is a very slight comedy which amused some audiences at the time of its release. There have been many other similar films since, so many becoming more and more raucous than this one.

The film opens with a fraternity house and hazing conditions, with a rather nerdy president of the house. The three main protagonists of this film are your average students in this kind of Animal House tradition. One comes from a wealthy family and is expected to host a fraternity party in the family tradition. However, the money for the party has disappeared from the fraternity safe. It is fairly clear from the outset and proven at the end that the nerdy president has taken the money.

Those of the fraternity are fairly sexist in their perspectives on women. At the sorority house, some of the girls are as raucous and promiscuous as the boys. On the other hand, there is a feminist group.

When the three are expelled from the fraternity house, they get the idea that they should go to the sorority, disguised as girls (as if…!). However, for the sake of the screenplay, they are accepted despite their rather non--female appearance.

Actually, at times they become just some of the girls and are quite accepted. The hero, however, is entangled with the feminist, sisters at home, sharing work together as male and female at college courses.

Needless to say, there is the party, some mayhem, the hero revealing himself, the exposing of the president, and some romance at the end (whether the central characters have matured or not).
