GIRLS NIGHT OUT
Canada, 2017, 84 minutes, Colour.
Mackenzie Mauzey, Jacob Blair, Hannah Emily Anderson, Kelly Kruger, Katherine Barrell, Code Ray Thompson.
Directed by Philippe Gagnon.
This television film, from Canada, from prolific television movie director Philippe Gagnon, will be of interest principally to audiences who resemble the central characters of the film.
The film opens Mc Kenzie, with the central character being threatened and then goes back nine hours. It is the story of the young woman and her engagement, four of her friends from college turning up to take her out for a night on the town. A lot of the film takes place in the streets, in the limousine, at a hotel, in a club – with lots and lots of selfies.
The fiance is contacted by Brandon, a sinister man from Mc Kenzie’s past, date raping her leading to a judicial ordeal which she wants to put in the past.
The film veers between the abduction of the fiance and his being threatened, texts and photos being sent back and forth, the girls set on a chase for various clues, reminiscent of the situation of the rape of the past.
Ultimately, Brandon is unmasked as is one of the girls who has been collaborating against McKenzie? – leading to deaths.
As said, of interest mainly to same age and similar situation audiences.
