With the success of the original film in 2006, it is surprising to find that it took more than a decade for a sequel. And this is a very enjoyable sequel, taking of the central characters and their families (with same casters in the original) to see what has happened during the 2000 is.
The script was written by Patrick Heward who plays the role of David. He gives himself some very good lines and quite some action!: Fiore returns as the more straight up-and-down Martin.
In this situation, David years undercover investigating a scam, uncertain as to what it was leading to, the stealing of cars and reconditioning them with the plan to send them into the United States. Martin encounters David once again during a raid on the garage and the setting up of David so that he would not be unmasked – however, they are discovered. In the meantime, there is a young woman, full of test of testosterone as she says, a computer whiz who helps discover what is happening, especially with her providing an earpiece for David by which he can hear Martin and Mark in here and see what is going on in the garage?
The film is very Canadian, David speaking Canadian French, Martin speaking English – with variations on the rest of the cast. It is also very satirical on the United States and American attitudes towards Canada, a satiric presentation of an American small town and its incompetent police, their ignorance about Canada. There is also play with critique of the FBI – and the revelation that the art archvillain is an FBI agent who wants to use the cars, with bombs in them, to blow up outside mosque, as a wake-up call to the self-satisfied American public.
Lots of action, especially at the end as the two try to stop the mission. The two are an odd couple but entertainingly so, so that the film is an enjoyable combination of expected action (and beyond) and a lot of comic dialogue and routines.
