This was the third in a series of Friday films. They have been described as ghetto comedies – and, with those conventions and limitations, they proved to be very popular with the target audience in the late 1990s and early 2000 is.
The film is written by Ice Cube, prominent in the music field as well as as an actor. He also takes one of the central roles, a semi--responsible security guard along with his pal, Mike Epps. They get into all kinds of scrapes and their work, have difficulties in paying the rent tethered to their demanding landlady, their house being robbed at Christmas, a suspicious Santa Claus being seen.
There are all kinds of comic setups, the comedians playing to his strengths, tangles with all kinds of familiar ghetto characters.
To see how well our appreciated by the target audiences, it is worth having a look at the large range of comments on the IMDb blog.
