RESIDENT EVIL: WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY

Canada, 2021, 107 minutes, Colour.

Kaya Scodelario, Hannah John-Kamen, Robbie Amell, Tom Hopper, Avan Jogia, Donal Logue, Neal McDonagh.

Directed by Johannes Roberts.

The seventh Resident Evil film, not continuing the story line but envisioning a prequel.

The focus is on Raccoon City and to illicit experimentation on children by the Umbrella Corporation. The film takes advantage of desert open spaces for the atmosphere of the city, life on the surface but the sinister happenings underneath the city.

The film introduces a brother and sister, Claire and Chris, some alienation, and then investigations by organisations into the doings in the Umbrella Corporation. There are also quite a number of characters involved in investigation, a lot of action adventure.

There is also the zombie atmosphere, a weird truck driver licking blood, transforming, other characters affected by the experimentations.

While the film did well at the box office and, especially, streaming,, it was severely criticised by reviewers and, on the IMDb, a lot of spleen being vent by fans of the other Resident Evil films.

For the record, the entry for this film in Wikipedia seems to have been written by a great fan, an expert in research, more detail about the plot of the film as well as the production background than would be needed by most viewers.

The director is British as are quite a number of the leading cast.
