We are very sad to hear of the death of Frank Smith.

Chris Monaghan CP, President of YTU writes: Michael Kelly just informed me that Fr Frank Smith CSsR died peacefully last night (2 August) at 8:35 pm in Berengarra an aged care facility at the back of St George’s hospital in Kew. Frank taught at YTU in the 1970’s when he pioneered a program in speech and drama which included, communication, public speaking, radio and television, theatre and preaching.

For much of his public ministry Frank was engaged with the poor. Along with the Redemptorist Lay Community, he formed communities in Mirrabooka (Perth), Wendouree (Ballarat) and West Heidelberg (Melbourne). He ceased dialysis last weekend as the treatment was no longer effective and died peacefully surrounded by family and his confreres.

Frank requested that the funeral take place in Wendouree so close to his heart and ministry with the Exodus Community.

Frank was such a joy to have as a teacher in our early days at YTU. He was so creative, bubbly, and concerned for us all. His ministry to the poor revealed his generous and loving character. He was so inspired by Gospel values. He will be sadly missed.

A happy moment, Frank with Robyn Reynolds OLSH

We, Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, pay tribute to Frank, especially remembering his Creativity courses for pre-novitiate students at the YTU in the 1970s.
