Eye Witness, The/ 1970

THE EYE-WITNESS

UK, 1970, 89 minutes, Colour.
Mark Lester, Lionel Jeffries, Susan George, Tony Bonner, Jeremy Kemp, Peter Vaughan.
Directed by John Hough.

The Eye- Witness is only a minor thriller, but if accepted as such is quite satisfying as entertainment - comedy, intrigue, and some spectacular chases. The romance, however, is quite perfunctory. It is another version of the boy who cried 'wolf' - a lonely, imaginative boy from a lighthouse on Malta who sees the killer in an assassination. Oliver's Mark Lester does his bit as the boy and Lionel Jeffries' eccentricities raise some laughs. An easy, undemanding thriller to start people on film discussion.

1. Did you enjoy this thriller? Was it exciting? Why?

2. The film was another version of The Boy Who Cried Wolf. Did the fact that the main story-line was predictable spoil the film?

3. Did the film show clearly why Ziggy used his imagination so much, inventing stories?

4. Did the film show you the risks involved in executing an assassination? What were your thoughts on assassinations after seeing the film?

5. There were several killings in the film besides the assassination the little girl, the Dominican priest, the housekeeper, etc. Was the film too brutal? Is further killing the consequence of initial violence?

6. what was the motivation of the head of the Police Force? Was he ruthless or just doing his duty?

7. Do you think that the moral of the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf came across forcefully?
