BIZ KONCU (WILL NOT STOP THERE)
Croatia, 2008, 112 minutes, Colour.
Directed by Vinko Bresan.
Will Not Stop There is a Croatian film with memories of the Balkan wars of the 1990s. The film is narrated by a gypsy who acts in Serbian porn films. A young man, veteran of Croatian attacks against the Serbs (he was a sniper) enlists his help to find the star of the film. It emerges that she was the wife of the general whom he killed in a sniping attack. He had watched her, sometimes pruriently, and now wants to rescue her, buying her from her pimp and setting her up to rehabilitate her.
The film seems somewhat tawdry in its opening, especially with the voice-over of the gypsy. However, the human faces gradually emerge and the film is a compassionate and understanding look at people who have suffered from the wars. There is a further complication in the health of the main protagonist, dying of cancer, wanting to do something good with his life before he died.
