Valley of Eagles

VALLEY OF EAGLES

UK, 1951, 85 minutes, Black and white.
Jack Warner, John Mc Callum, Nadia Gray, Christopher Lee.
Directed by Terence Young.

Valley of Eagles is a neat routine thriller of the early '50s. Starring low-key British leads Jack Warner and John Mc Callum, it is the work of the writer director Terence Young. In the '60s he was to move into big-budget films with several of the James Bond films including From Russia with Love and Thunderball. The nuclear espionage is still of interest and the use of Swedish and Lapland back grounds and anthropology adds an original touch to the film. The musical score is by Nino Rota, who was to do many excellent scores in the '60s and '70s especially that of Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet and the Fellini films.
