POLICE ACADEMY 2: THEIR FIRST ASSIGNMENT
US, 1985, 83 minutes, Colour.
Steve Guttenberg, Bubba Smith, David Graf, Colleen Camp, Howard Hesseman.
Directed by Jerry Paris.
Police Academy 2 capitalises on the extraordinary popularity of the original. The film gets most of the cast back and makes them do more of the same. In fact, the film is really a repeat of the original.
While the original had a rough and raucous humour with a touch of the crass, the sequel is somewhat less raucous and less crude. There is entertainment in the rookies going out on their first assignment - with the expected devastating results including smashing of a glass and china shop.
The film highlights the type of slapstick humour always popular and this is pleasingly, if forgettably, done.
