Police Academy 3: Back in Training

POLICE ACADEMY 3: BACK IN TRAINING

US, 1986, 80 minutes, Colour.
Steve Guttenberg, Bubba Smith, Michael Winslow, David Graf, Leslie Esterbrook, Bob Goldthwait.
Directed by Jerry Paris.

Police Academy 3 works on the television series principle: if you enjoyed them before, you'll enjoy them again. For the fans of the first two films, this is true.

The film has virtually the same jokes as the original films, though, as with the second film, the element of vulgarity is considerably lessened. This film is almost General Exhibition material.

The film focuses on rivalries between the two academies in the city, one of which has to be eliminated., Needless to say, there are dirty tricks from the rival academy. Commandant Lassard's academy, despite all its ineptitude, saves the Governor of the State and the day.

George Gaines is enjoyable as Commandant Lassard. Steve Guttenberg leads the regulars from the other films. They come to save the day as instructors in their old academy. The same jokes are there, the spoofs of various films (a Psycho shower imitation, Tackleberry imitating Rambo).

There are many enjoyable slapstick gags, Michael Winslow's noises, parodies of the police films and series ? and an enjoyable spectacular chase along a river for the climax.

The film, was directed by actor director Jerry Paris. It is enjoyable entertainment, indicating the style of popular comedy of the mid?'80s.
